We started early for the Grand Canyon but never made it. First we stopped to help a guy whose engine had caught on fire. That was in the Mojave Desert. While traveling we saw signs for St. Andrew's Monastery and followed them for quite a ways. We ended up on a dirt road filled with ruts. We could only go so far before the road deteriorated to the point that we didn't want to be on it any further.

Then we decided to make a side trip in to see Hoover Dam. It was really crowded and hot. In fact the temp was 100 right outside the Lake Mead area.

After getting back on Rt. 15 we drove through the Virgin River Gorge towards St. George, Utah. Then went through Zion National Park. I love the drive through this spectacular scenery.
