Baby Pics

Thought you all might like to see the newest members of our extending family: Kelsey and Audrey.

Here is Ethan with his new sister Kelsey. She was born May 5 and weighed 7lb 11 oz......Wow, a 7-11 on Cinco de Mayo! Welcome to the family Kelsey. You've got two wonderful and fun big brothers!

Next we have little Audrey, born May 19 and weighing 8lb 12 oz. Don't Mom and Dad look proud!

And just for fun, here is a little outfit I designed when Kelly was a baby. It also has a little hat which I couldn't find, but it is in the same pattern. I designed it this way so that if it was cold she could wear all three pieces...if it warmed up a little we could take the sweater off and leave her little legs covered. And of course just a sweater comes in handy at times too. I really liked the versatility. If you like it I will make you one...just email me, or leave a comment and make sure you tell me your color preference.

Baby Girl Outfits

The past couple weeks have been busy for me. Cousin Martha had her first girl - at home- way to go, Martha; and our grand daughter Audrey was born. So I have been busy designing and making baby outfits.

I love the look of so many of the old patterns, but one big difference is that they were made to fit over cloth diapers. And I am almost sure that I was one of the last mothers in the USA to not only use cloth, but to make my own diapers! Regardless of the validity of that last comment, I have had to redesign little girl panties so they aren't so big and bulky. Also, since our homes are heated to constant temperatures, sweaters can be lighter weight and narrower.

So here are two of my redesigning efforts as modeled by Kelly's own Olivia. Click on an image to see it bigger.

On the white outfit, I also designed little roses as accents. These roses are very easy to make. All you need to do is chain 30, then dc 7 in the 4th from the hook, *sk 1, sc in the next , sk 1, dc 8 in the next*, repeat until 8 dc groups are made, then sk 1, sc 1, end off and leave a long tail for sewing. Any extra chains stitches can be carefully undone. Now just curl the "petals" around each other as you sew them together, making sure to pull them tight, or let them be a little looser so as to achieve the look you want. You can make bigger or smaller roses depending on your original chain length. I used a size 2 steel crochet hook for these and baby yarn (size 3).

Sandals and Booties and Socks, Oh My!

Well, I've been having fun designing and making fashion footwear for little ones! Here are some samples I made up for you to look at. Please choose whatever styles you want and also tell me if you would like any alterations made to them.

These were designed be me when Scott was a baby.
All our kids had long narrow feet.
These can be modified to fit fat feet too!!

I modified a patten I found in an old magazine (circa 1960).
They look light and airy.

Two socks based on the same design.
I made up the pattern myself and showed it to a knitter who said it was a good idea.

A remake of a sandal pattern found in an old crochet magazine.
I love the open toe!

It may seem odd to you that I redo the patterns, but I wanted to make sure these were easy to make and that they would be able to be modified to fit all feet types. One basic thing I have done is to get rid of all ribbon ties. I find that ribbed tops or crotcheted ties work better. Ribbons always seemed to come untied too easily and they fray along the ends.

Leave me your comments.
