May 16

We went to the Grotto of the Redemption in West bend Iowa this morning.  It is made of semi-precious stones from around the world and  contains Italian statues about Jesus' life.  It is about 100 years old.  We arrived early in the morning and were the only people there.

Then we met a very nice young man who works here.  He told us about his life in Iowa and how happy he is to be a janitor at the Grotto.  He also is a rock musician and makes tube amps.

The land in Iowa is very flat and it is very windy there also.  We saw many corn and pig farms and lots of windmills.

We then drove across Nebraska to North Platte where we stopped for the night.  Buffalo Bill Cody is a famous American from the late 1800's.
