We finished our tour of the CA Missions today. We saw 16 of the 21. First stop was San Luis Rey which has been under renovations for a year. It was very quiet here because only the museum and cemetery are open.

San Diego de Alcala was the last mission we visited and the first to be founded in CA by Serra. It is in a peaceful spot in San Diego and we enjoyed our time there. And this is a good time to share the philosophy of Junipero Serra. He said to "always go forward and never turn back".

with our friend one last time |
We spent the afternoon in Old Town San Diego. It is a state park/tourist attraction. We went through all the museums and ate tacos from a sidewalk vendor (yummy) and ended our meal with pan dulce (half price on Mondays) We also went through many of the shops.

Now we are off towards the Grand Canyon. Time to head east! But first a look at the inn where we spent the night in Barsfield, CA....it was designed to look like a mission. And no, I did not plan this stop.
